The challenge

Uganda's young population is entering a labour market being rapidly reshaped by artificial intelligence. Most university graduates and young professionals have heard of AI but have no practical ability to use it in their daily work or career decisions. The gap between AI awareness and AI capability is wide — and it is costing Uganda's youth real economic opportunity.

The Mastercard Foundation, committed to enabling dignified and fulfilling work for young people across Africa, recognised that closing this gap requires more than general digital literacy. It requires structured, hands-on AI training that connects skills to real career outcomes.

The approach

Tamani Solutions was selected to deliver a cohort of the Enhanced Intelligence Bootcamp — a 24-session, three-month programme built on the principle that enhanced intelligence (human intelligence fused with AI) is a learnable, teachable skill set.

The programme equips participants with practical AI skills woven into a deeper framework: self-awareness, mindset development, entrepreneurial thinking, and financial literacy. The goal is not just to teach students to use AI tools, but to help them understand themselves well enough to use those tools with direction and purpose.

Sessions are delivered in-person, structured as interactive workshops rather than lectures. Each session builds on the last, moving participants from foundational understanding through applied skills to independent capability.

The programme

  • 95 students enrolled in the August 2026 cohort, supported through the Mastercard Foundation partnership.
  • 24 structured sessions over three months, combining AI skills with personal development and entrepreneurship.
  • Subsidised access made possible through the partnership, bringing a high-quality AI training programme within reach of students who would not otherwise be able to afford it.
  • Practical AI skills across real tools and workflows — not hypothetical exercises, but skills students can apply the day after each session.
  • Career and direction clarity as a core outcome alongside technical skill, addressing the full challenge of a young person entering an AI-shaped economy.

Why this matters for Africa

Africa has more young people than anywhere else on earth. Most of them are entering an economy where AI will reshape every industry, every role, and every career path within the next decade. The question is not whether AI will change their lives — it will. The question is whether they will be equipped to benefit from that change or be displaced by it.

Programmes like this one — rigorous, practical, accessible — are how Africa closes the AI skills gap from the inside. Tamani Solutions is committed to scaling this work across Uganda and across the continent.
